Luke visits! - Dog Safety

Luke came into class for a visit on Wednesday. I'm not sure who was more excited! Luke or Room8!!
Leading up to his visit we have been learning about how to keep ourselves safe aroound dogs - following the 'A, B, C's'

Follow the A, B’S & C rules when being introduced to a dog and be ‘DOG SMART’.

A – ASK, for permission to pat a dog that is with an owner (NEVER approach or pat a dog
that is on its own, or that is displaying aggressive behaviour)

Bs – BEND, to be the same level as the dog, and let the dog SNIFF your hand

C – CHIN, pat the dog by gentle stroking under the chin (this is a non-threatening gesture).

Otaki School - Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

We promote behaviours in our school where the children are STAR's - they are Safe, Totally Responsible, Awesome Learners and Respectful.

This terms focus is being Totally Responsible. Today in Room 8 we thought about what it would look like when we are 'Totally Responsible' for our belongings.
When we arrive at school we hang our bags up.
When we arrive at school we put our bookbags in the basket in the classroom.
We put our jerseys and shoes in our bags when we are not wearing them.
When we are finished with our lunch boxes we put them back in our bags.

Good job Room 8! You know how to be Totally Responsible for your things!

Safe Landings...

As a part of our Gymnastics unit we have been practising our 'safe' landings. When we jump and land - we do so with our feet apart and our knees bent - good job everyone! I like how you land - you know how to keep yourselves safe!

Gymnastics - on the balance beam....

In Room 8 we have been doing gymnastics as our physical education focus for Term 3.
Gross motor skills are important because they are the "building blocks" or foundation movements for more complex and specialised skills required by children throughout their lives to competently and confidently play different games, sports and recreational activities.
You can support their gross motor development by taking them to the playground or encouraging physical activity in other ways.

Thanks!

Thank you to all those who have returned their children's blog permission slips! We look forward to receiving more! Please bear with me as I learn about blogging and the technology behind it - as time goes on I envisage being able to to provide a rich blog of the goings on in Room 8 - but as I have found this weekend there are some limitations to what I can upload onto the blog in terms of file sizes - as I found with a video I took in class on Friday...

New Blog

In response to the recent Parent Survey undertaken by Otaki Primary School we have been looking at new ways to communicate with our parents about the learning that is going on in the classroom.

This week we have been talking about different ways we can keep ourselves safe in the classroom.
How we carry scissors safely, how we sit on chairs so we don't fall and hurt, sitting carefully keeping our hands and feet to ourselves, and walking in the classroom.
